What we did at the Miami Residency in May 2019
In May we completed another sold out DSD Residency in the energizing hub that is Miami. If you have ever wondered what happens at a DSD Residency, we’d like to give you a unique insight into the four career-changing days of the program. Read on to find out what we got up to in Miami and what course participants really thought of their time with Christian Coachman and the DSD team.
What is involved in the DSD Residency?
We offer four days packed full of content from world-leading DSD expert speakers, including Christian Coachman, DSD Founder and CEO. The program is meticulously planned to offer a combination of lectures, hands-on exercises and live patient demonstrations so participants can experience an immersive learning environment focused on esthetic dentistry, interdisciplinary dentistry and emotional dentistry.
In addition, there are practical workshops on understanding how to use DSD to develop a communication protocol that will enable an interdisciplinary approach to your clinic’s every-day dentistry. There are also marketing experts on hand to offer expert advice and strategies. Over the course of the residency, participants learn how to make the smile design process a potentially life changing experience for every patient, as patients become the co-designer of their new smile.
An overview of the DSD Residency
Day 1 - Step out of your comfort zone
Through an introduction to the Digital Smile Design workflow and clinic by Christian Coachman and a live patient demonstration of the first appointment, you can experience the future of dentistry.
Day 2 - Learn about the technology
Get acquainted with the DSD Planning Center and complete a hands-on smile design exercise. On day two we explore just how technology can help to improve smile design, patient experience and enable you to design and deliver smiles using orofacial analysis.
Day 3 - Emotional Dentistry day
Learn how to communicate with your patient throughout their journey, with storytelling and digital marketing, and see the impact of the second appointment with the live patient demonstration.
Day 4 - Implementation day
Using a hands-on approach, you learn about the DSD Planning Center products and have the chance to try them for yourself. By the end of the day you will understand how you can bring DSD to your daily work.
What DSD Residency Miami participants had to say
We don’t want you to just take our word for it that the DSD Residency is a career investment. That’s why we asked some of the participants from Miami to share their thoughts about their experiences.
Dr Chaitra Shanthagowda from Texas, USA, travelled to Florida for the Residency and has this to say afterwards:
“I felt like I'd learned a lot this is totally a game changer for me to implement with my team and then to serve my patients in a better way to bring a healthy smile. So I had a wonderful experience and I look forward to working with the team! My favorite part was the interaction with my peers from basically, I met people from over 30 different countries of professionals under one roof, and the motivation from Dr. Coachman and the amazing experience with the DSD family.”
Inspired by the solutions Digital Smile Design can offer, Dr Faride Certuche from Texas, USA, described her experience as:
“A lot of information, a lot of great solutions for our patients. I can't wait to go back to my clinic and start doing all these treatments on my patients. I think not only they will benefit but it's going to be a really good change for my practice.”
Dr Hardeep Bhatta traveled from British Columbia, Canada, and explained for him:
“It's been very life-changing in terms of the offerings that I will bring back with me to the office. The program’s amazing conceptually. So to me, Christian’s a phenomenal speaker and I would definitely come back to the Residency again.”
How can you make the most of a DSD Residency?
We thought the best people to ask about how the DSD Residency could best benefit your dental career and clinic were those dentists who have experienced it for themselves. We ran a survey for Residency participants and we asked them two questions - what is their one tip for people like you considering a DSD Residency? And what is next for them on their DSD journey? Here are some of their answers.
What's your ONE tip for anyone who is thinking about attending a DSD Residency or one-day course in the future?
Prepare in advance
- Try to learn about it as much as you can before attending this course, so that you can understand and start practicing faster and better.
- Be prepared to accept a change in thinking.
- Get a digital scanner, and become comfortable with it.
- Come prepared and with good instruments (proper iPad and pencils).
Get stuck in
- Get involved right away.
Bring the team
- Attending a DSD course provides an incredible motivation to incorporate DSD into your practice. Understanding the benefits of this technique for both the patients understanding and motivation, as well as providing the clinician with even better clinical outcomes is invaluable. I encourage you to bring your support staff and other team members, to really embed Digital Smile Design into the ethos of your patient care - you won't look back!
Do it!
- Do it!!! It’s a paradigm shift towards holistic dental care promoting interdisciplinary dentistry benefiting patients and practices. DSD has changed the way I practice and has given me new goals in my dental career.
What is your next step in the DSD journey?
Practice in my clinic
- We are already a DSD clinic - so really improving our patient experience is key.
- I need to start using it!
- Do a lot of mock ups
- I need a DSD room in my clinic.
Train more
- I want to participate in another course
- I am hoping to attend DSD Residency 2 in Brazil in January of 2020.
