With that in mind, what we want is to help dentists to have a more comprehensive view of the treatment to be able to communicate this to the patient in a much more efficient way. Our team brings together the very best in dental technology: CBCT technology, intraoral scanning from imaging systems such as the iTero Element 5D, 3D printing and leading treatment planning software. 

So what actually happens at the DSD Planning Center?

Here are the five steps of our internal workflow:

STEP ONE: CREATING A CASE

Once you have collated all the necessary patient information, including photos, the DSD protocol, a video, and the STL files from the intra oral scanner, you are ready to upload everything through the DSD Planning Center website. This is the point at which you will order the case, uploading all of the information needed. 

Our team then receives this information, organizes it and adds its to our workflow, so that we can begin to work with it. If a dentist is ever in any doubt about the patient files or has any questions about uploading a case, we can help with any troubleshooting. 

STEP TWO: FILE PREPARATION

The second stage of the process is completed by the Smile Design team, which is divided into three sub-teams. The first is the sub-team that oversees the preparation of the files. The files that are received from the dental clinics are checked to ensure they meet the quality requirements.

STEP THREE: SMILE DESIGN

The third step is the Smile Design phase. Here, the second sub-team of designers will take your case and smile design it. This means moving the teeth selected into the ideal position, factoring in proportion and size, always relative to the entire face of the patient as well as the smile. We create the smile design of the patient, always taking into consideration any notes and limitations provided by the clinician.

STEP FOUR: QUALITY CONTROL

The next step of the process is quality control, one of the most important stages of the Planning Center’s work. This involves a team of dentists that will make sure the smile design is physically possible. It's about ensuring that we don’t just have a nice smile design but that it's an attractive outcome that can be achieved. Clinical quality control is key to guaranteeing the quality of our service. We have a dedicated team for quality control, led by our Clinical Director, Dr Tatiana Coachman, whose main objective is always to deliver a realistic design for your patient and also to follow your prescriptions whenever possible. It is about finding the balance between esthetics and function so we always provide a clinical point of view for the treatment. Every case goes through this rigorous quality control process.

STEP FIVE: CASE READY FOR CLINICIAN

The final step is where we upload the planned files to the website, making them available to the clinicians so they can download them and review the case. We then generate STL files of the design, both the motivational for the mock-up, so it can be placed in the patient's mouth, and also the file of the ideal design which can be used to treatment plan the case. Finally we upload the presentation, with all the images containing the design, different views, transparency image; everything needed to approve or to request any modifications on this design, until signed off.
